How mindfulness helps me get things done quicker at work

The moment you opened your eyes today, what were you thinking? It’s another beautiful day? Or it’s raining, God I would be so clumsy? Or the unfinished tasks from the day before?

WHY I STARTED?

Before practicing mindfulness, my day always started with “I want more sleep” or “there are so much work to handle later on blah blah blah”. I started thinking of all the tasks I had to do later that day while brushing my teeth and putting my makeup on. I was never present in the moment. It seemed that my mind was always somewhere else and there was a lot of hustle and bustle in my day. One day, this word “mindfulness” just popped up in a conversation with my friend and I decided to give it a try for a less stressful life.

HOW MINDFULNESS HAS CHANGED ME?

Mindfulness is when you bring your awareness back to what you are doing or experiencing at that moment. You don’t have to “force” yourself to not wander around since it’s normal for our mind to wander around. I started practicing mindfulness by stop using my smartphone on my way to work or back home, just focused on my breathing and if my mind wandered around, I just observed my thoughts and slowly returned my focus back to my breathing. I found this practice calming. On my way to work, I no longer worried what might come next at work and managed to have a fresh start everyday. On my way back home, I no longer brought the problems I had at work with me all the way and managed to spend quality time with family and friends.

I definitely feel more energetic and feel more relaxed every day. I find it easier to focus for a long period of time which helps the efficiency at work as well. What if mindfulness can help your as well? Give yourself a few minutes to feel your world!
