Q&A with our Managing Director – Christopher Yim
Q: What have you been through?
A: I started from scratch with no experience on how to setup and run a business. It was very tough and stressful at the beginning because the top priority is to get clients to work with us so that the business may start making revenue. However, the same time I was basically responsible for every business functions such as business development, marketing, accounting, human resources…etc. The hardest of all is accepting you have a lot of expenses with no income or unstable income at the time.
Q: What are you up to lately?
A: Recently my business is going through a period of transition where we are offering different sort of training workshops to companies, labour department and the public. I have been delivering workshops such as personal branding, personal development, social selling and how to generate sales via social media in this digital age. These workshops enable us to work more closely with our clients on their talent development, employer branding and employee engagement. Recruitment is important but retaining the people you hire is equally important. We want companies to understand the importance of investing in their people and in return, their employees will be more willing and able to perform. Their business will benefit from higher productivity in a more harmonious corporate environment.
Q: How’s it so far?
A: Change is fun and challenging at the same time. It is new to us. We have to spend time and resources into it, research into the different topics, segments and target audience. The quality of the content, the delivery method, group exercises, mini-games and case sharing all play a part towards the success of a workshop. We also have to inform our current clients that we have something new to offer, something that is value adding to their business and develop new clients so that our business is more sustainable in the long run.
Q: What’s next?
A: We have been organising free sessions (ZOOM sessions too!) for people who sign up to get a gist of what our workshops are like. We ask for their feedback so we may improve and finalise our signature series which we will be our USP where others are not able to offer. Schools and education institutions will also be our next targeted customers as nurture future talents has always been the very reason why my partner and I setup Next Innovation in the very first place. Local talents will be able to equip themselves better before joining the job market, obtain market intelligence from us and stay ahead of the game
